Retrospective

Recreating James' history commenced in 2012 with sorting and organizing several thousand 35mm slides of images of paintings that were photographed during James' career. Many of the images had been photographed in bright sunlight creating a harsh light along with glare and shadows on James' impasto brush strokes. Time and tropical humidity caused more imperfections in the film including fading, discoloration, pinholes and dust.

The best slides of each painting were then scanned into digital files and then edited. The editing was performed like a restoration of an old masterpiece except using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

James worked closely during the entire process to ensure each scan matched the original painting.
