Serigraphs “Gold Tree,” “Monkeypod Bougainvillea,” and "River Sunrise" and were custom designed for James' technique and style. No other artist had used this innovative process to this extent (as per the serigraph atelier). The atelier and James created the mix media approach because of James' impasto (thick paint) technique. Their focus was to create a limited edition serigraph that looked like an original oil painting. This was achieved through the embossing process and applying thick layers of ink. (Each stroke of paint from the oil was embossed in the serigraph by using a zinc plate. This made it possible for the serigraph to have texture.) Hide the serigraph details I believe you will applaud their efforts because the technique is dynamic - the impact bold! James later was inspired to add a third medium by personally hand painting the embossed serigraph with acrylic paint. The spectacular result is what James refers to as "Mix Media Originals," his own innovation! By the way, it also took over 6 months for the atelier to create each embossed serigraph because of the complexity of the design and the variety of colours in James' palette. Therefore each embossed serigraph has 34-40 or more colours. |
