The description of a mixed media:
Two or more media used in one painting, such as a graphic with permanent roland inks, oil stick paint, oil resin (alkyd), acrylic and colored ground (gesso).
James hand paints each color on the mixed media himself, the thickly applied oil/acrylic is called impasto! Each brush stroke is applied one at a time.
"What I love so much is the mood of the landscape, the emotion of it. I feel that by painting on location, being with nature, having a sensitivity to nature, I can get closer to the spirit of it, to the emotion I experience perceiving it.
And the closer I get to nature, the more easily the viewer will understand, from the very energy of my painting, from the brushstrokes themselves, the mood, the emotion of the scene." |
