When Hoyle arrived on Kaua’i in 1979, he realized many rustic plantation camp houses were being destroyed, to be replaced by commercial and residential buildings. He spent months in various locations, particularly Hanapepe, painting in his colorful impressionist style, scenes that have now disappeared. |
