River Sunrise is a vibrant and dramatic image which is inspired by
the color, light and reflection of a sunrise landscape along a lush river’s edge.

Hoyle’s
palette is exaggerated and sharp, in contrast to the soft and misty colors of other impressionists
such as Monet.
While the lower part of this work with its rippling water and water
hyacinths has a peaceful movement, the upper portion seems to pull the viewer skyward into a new
day. Painted from memory in the artist’s studio, River Sunrise depicts early morning through the
tall river grasses in a romantic and private setting.
Hoyle focuses his attention
on a river washing out to sea while the sun emerges from behind a valley wall. |
